Hand-painted Wooden Fan circa 1900 |
Our collection
The Libby Museum’s collection of 14 antique folding fans, was gifted primarily by Roy B. Carder on his passing in 2010.
The Carder collection was appraised by Arthur James Galleries, Inc. in 2005, at an estimated value of each fan at $200-$350. Of the 13 Carder collection fans, 10 were given in their original frames, and 3 are unframed. Cleaning and restoring the original fans and their frames, and framing those not encased was made possible by a grant from FANA and the skill of artist Stephanie B. Ayers during the summer of 2019. In 2018 we also restored and framed a hand painted fan with an image of The Museum, gifted to Dr. Libby in the early 1900s by a friend (photo on left) Total fans: 14. Thank you again to FANA for their support to this important project. The Libby will put the fans on permanent display when the Museum restoration is complete. Meanwhile, to arrange a private viewing of the fans, please contact the museum Director: [email protected] |
